AMERICAN LEGION “TABS FOR TOTS” IS THRIVING!

With one-quarter million dollar mark reached, The American Legion Department of Michigan’s “Tabs for Tots” Program continues to regularly provide permanent pediatric equipment to hospitals and volunteer ambulances statewide.  It is entirely a Legion program and has no connection with any other aluminum tab collection project.  The program started in February, 1989, and since then has generated more than 147 pieces of equipment statewide for a total of more than $300,000. The purpose of the program is two-fold.  It provides for recycling a natural material in the form of aluminum tabs and benefits children statewide.  It has recycled more than 600 tons of aluminum based on approximately 1,000 tabs per pound.

 INSTRUCTIONS FOR TABS COLLECTION

Collect soda or beer can tabs only.  No tops, lids or anything else.  Turn in tabs to American Legion Post 459.  After we accumulate a reasonable amount of tabs someone from our Post will turn them into a local salvage yard.  ALL money received from the tabs goes directly to the American Legion State Headquarters and is earmarked for the Tabs for Tots Program.
